Since I am from Serbia, we don’t celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December. We have different traditions here. We celebrate Christmas on the 7th of January. And for us, Christmas is not so much about the gifts. Of course, kids get a few presents. But for us, Christmas is more about family, traditions, and spending time together.
As for the gifts, we have a tradition that kids open their presents on the first day of the New Year. And it’s a big deal in our house. We make it clear to them that they can’t have any gifts until the 1st of January because that’s when Santa Clause is coming to everyone’s home. Lucky for us, they still believe in Santa Clause.
So I wanted to share with you a few New Year gift ideas for kids. And in my next post, maybe I will share with you my suggestion for gifts for moms and dads. Let me know if you would like to see it.
For kids 0-1.
When they are babies, the best gift you can give them is something they can chew on without choking. We all know that babies love to put things in their mouth, so when choosing the present for them, keep that in your mind. You can get them soft blocks, plush toys, baby gym, bath toys, colorful books for babies, sox that have rattles attached to them, rattles, etc.
For kids 2-6.
When kids turn 2, and 3 is the time when buying presents for them is becoming more exciting. At this age, they already know what they like and what they want Santa Clause to buy them for New Year. At this age, there are so many options for presents, depending on what they love. You can give them crayons and watercolors if they love to draw. Coloring books are also a great option, dollhouse, dolls, cars, trucks, Leggo Duplo, any cartoon character that they are currently obsessed with, drawing board, books, board games, memory cards, kitchen sets, little garage for the boys, trains, etc.
For kids 7-10.
At this age, they are still into toys, but they are old enough to get a more grown-up present. X-box or Sony PlayStation is always a good idea for a gift. They are at that age when they are starting to play video games. So they will appreciate the present. Other gift ideas for this age can be a new tablet, board games, educational games, books, barbie dolls, remote control cars, a new computer if they are learning online, arts and crafts supplies, music lessons, etc.
I would love to give you ideas for older kids, but my kids are ages 6 and 8, so I still have no clue what gifts older kids would appreciate. I hope you find this little list helpful. And if you have any more ideas for New Years’ presents, please them in the comments below.
Until next time, my darlings, please stay safe, I love you, and I will talk to you soon.
